Some Common Fruits to Promote Healthy Skin

You may spend a lot of money on luxury skin care products to maintain a youthful glow on your face. However, healthy skin does start from inside. Why not incorporate some magical but very common fruits in your diet to promote a bright, clean and radiant complexion?

Below are the common fruits that you can simply grab from the produce section of the local market. You may be surprised to find that they are the simplest and inexpensive way of maintaining healthy and youthful skin.

Alleviate skin damage
Key fruit: Tomato

Spring is in the air, finally! As the daylight time prolongs, the chance that your skin runs into ultraviolet rays and harmful radiation gets greater. Most of us know that unprotected exposure to ultraviolet rays can lead to skin damage and wrinkles. Research found that tomatoes can stave off these harmful effects due to an antioxidant tomatoes contain called lycopene. Although tomatoes contain the highest concentration of lycopene, you can get the compound benefits from watermelon, pink grapefruit, apricot, guava and papaya.

Sooth the skin
Key fruit: Avocado

It was found that avocados contain a variety of antioxidants and healthy fats, which can nourish the skin and maintain cell structure and function. In addition, avocados are rich in vitamin E. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which can deactivate free radicals and is very helpful to the healing of sunburns, inflamed skin and skin sores. While avocados can provide an adequate amount of fatty acid that your body and skin need, they are also high in calories and possibly lead to weight gain if overindulge. A recommended way to consume this fruit is to eat it as a salad topping.

Mitigate visible aging
Key fruit: Citrus

Without any protection, harmful radicals will intrude and accumulate in your skin and they can contribute to visible aging of your skin. Consuming fruits high in vitamin C can keep the youthful complexion on your face. Vitamin C can boost collagen production and formation in your skin. Moreover, they can repair tissues and protect your skin against harmful radicals.  Good sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, kiwi, berries and cantaloupe. Citrus fruits include oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes. Making these fruits part of a daily diet is necessary because the body cannot produce or store vitamin C. However, it is never too hard to supplement vitamin C. Just squeeze some lemon or lime into your water for a burst of refreshing flavor, which can easily boost your body consumption of vitamin C.

As an added benefit, vitamin C can strengthen your immune system and promote metabolism in your body.

Detoxify the skin
Key fruit: Pears

Pears are a good source of fibers. One large pear has 5 grams of fiber, three of which are soluble fiber. Soluble fiber cleanses the body of toxins that damage skin cells. It will prevent wrinkles and dull skin. Also, because pears are rich in fibers, they can promote weight loss and help you achieve / maintain a slim body figure. To add pears to your diet, you can simply use them as an ingredient in your soup.

Long Day!

Left work around 10 o'clock today. Such a long day! Spent half the day on numbers and formulas and half the day on research. Luckily I bought some Asian snacks from a supermarket on the other day. Now only some chocolate and a good sleep can comfort me...

Who are you waiting for?

I literally ran into a burger when I was waiting for a milk shake. Little burger, who are you waiting for? :)

French dinner on Saturday

was having dinner with a friend in a fresh restaurant at Brooklyn Height. We had mussels with the Thai coconut curry sauce and seared duck breast. The food was great! Will go back definitely!

Cold season

It is getting cold in NY. I'm taking the Chinese cold season tea to strengthen my system for the weather. :)

If life gives you a sweet potato, make sweet potato soup!

Sometimes life gives you a sweet potato that doesn't look that sweet... (I think it looks unhappy...) but what I did was to make some delicious sweet potato soup! And happily ate it! :) The sweet potato soup is a traditional Chinese dessert sweet soup. It's a perfect thing to cheer yourself up in this gloomy rainy day.

Just because in such a snowy / rainy day, there's no other places like home, I stayed home for the day! And I love the moments relaxing at home doing whatever I want to deal with at the moment. Fortunately, with me I have some dark chocolate that I bought from the East Village yesterday. They say the dark chocolate is very good for health, so does it mean that this so called "super dark" is "super good"?? haha.... Who knows and I don't care.... I just know it tastes so good in my mouth. Hopefully it will do its job for my good health. :)

It says it will continue raining tomorrow. So I kind of tend to continue staying home tomorrow. Hopefully I won't get cabin fever. ;)
